Would Anyone Want This? Let It Go with Freecycle.org

FreecycleTM is a nonprofit, online network of local groups that promote giving (and receiving) stuff for free. This is a great resource when you have something that your favorite local charity can’t use or won’t pick up. Rather than adding it to the landfill, you can recycle unwanted items by offering your items to your local online group. It costs nothing to join or participate, and there are active groups all over the world. I am a member of the FreecycleTM Hennepin County group in Minnesota. After watching the site for a few weeks, I finally posted some of my own unwanted stuff. I was amazed to receive several replies in a matter of minutes, and now it’s all out of my garage. You can also use this list to get things you need. It might take patience, but the cost savings is worth the wait. This summer, I have transformed my yard from a boring rocks-and-bushes landscaping scheme to a series of evolving, welcoming gardens--all from hand-me-down plants! Another bonus has been in the connections and friends I have made through FreecycleTM. I have met several other families that share similar interests, simply by being open to the sharing cycle. FreecycleTM has been an unexpected blessing as I continue to watch strangers meet each other’s needs. Let me know if it works for you.
