Great Kitchen Gadget: Bag-E-Wash

Have you ever felt bad about throwing out plastic food storage bags (Baggies, Ziplocs, etc.)? You're probably aware of the environmental consequences of all that plastic in the landfills (polyethylene doesn’t begin to break down for over 400 years)...but you can't put them in your recycling bin (although you can recycle them through the Its In The Bag and www.PlasticBagRecycling.org programs). Still, reusing is always better than recycling, but it's kind of a pain to wash them by hand.*

Enter the Bag-E-Wash. It clips onto your dishwasher rack so that you can easily clean and reuse both quart- and gallon-sized bags. This little contraption holds the bags open and keeps them securely in place. When I don't have bags to wash, I just leave it in the dishwasher, because it doesn't sacrifice space for dishes.

I've been using mine for over two years, and it still looks brand new. For more information, visit www.bag-e-wash.com. Bag-E-Wash is made with recycled nylon, is family owned and operated (based in Minneapolis, MN) and made in the USA.

*If you don't have a dishwasher but still want to make a difference, the folks at Bag-E-Wash now offer a bag dryer as an alternative. Check it out!
