The cover story from Time magazine (March 28, 2005) discussed the rise of offensive material on television. Most of those surveyed agreed that TV showed too much violence, cursing, sexual content, and drug and alcohol abuse. (Interestingly enough, only 5% of the responders actually complained to a broadcaster or government agency.) There's a lot of junk on TV, even on news programs (not to mention the commercials).
The Time poll also reported that each week, 52% watched 10 hours or more of TV, 34% watched 4 to 10 hours, and 14% watched less than 4 hours.
We're all looking for ways to save time. But even "just watching at dinnertime" means paying less attention to what else is going on around you. You can often get more news from a 5-minute radio broadcast than a 30-minute news program.
The trick to making TV-Turnoff Week successful and fun is to intentionally schedule other activities in place of your regular TV time. Consider hobbies, games, exercising, outdoor fun, reading, or other ways of relaxing. Let me know how it goes!
